Like laddu is the king of Indian desserts, apple pie is the king of American desserts. Its light and simple, healthy but addictive like hell. And its origin was also funny.
At gold rush of California, migrants were flooding the river banks of Northern California, digging for newly discovered gold. A group saw a woman put some food on the front porch of her home to cool. It looked good. One of them wanted to taste a little. He liked it so much that he exchanged it for a gold nugget that he dug thru in Sacramento River. That was the year of gold rush – 1849. Rest is history. Now here is the pie formula:
Ingredients:
5 cups of apple sliced & peeled
¼ tsp salt
¾ cup sugar
⅛ tsp nutmeg
1 tbsp lemon
2 tbsp flour
¾ tsp cinnamon
Directions:
Preheat oven to 425°F. Mix above well and spread evenly on the dough of the pie. Bend and press edges nicely when enclosing upper part of pie. Make flour holes with a fork in upper part. Sprinkle little sugar crystals. Bake for 40-45 minutes till upper part is nice brown. Let it cool off for 2-hours, then refrigerate. Some people cover pie edges with aluminum foil to avoid it from being overcooked or burnt.
