Twitter has posted a video on 7.28.2019, featuring video of Indian tourists visiting Bali, Indonesia. Video contains hotel staff opening suitcases of tourists before departing from hotel picking out hotel properties including towels, toiletries, tissue paper roll, hotel electronic items of the room and more petty things.
It reminded me of the childhood days in 1950s Rajasthan I witnessed in school, a teacher saying “Germans are bad people for there is a sign at a library there saying “..dogs and Indians not allowed inside” India has changed a lot since then but still somehow we did not change at all. Being rude and loud in public places is perhaps tolerated as equal to low class Westerners in the West when they visit. I had just chuckled at their old habits but stealing tissue papers and towels from a hotel that may charge a hundred or two hundred dollars a day does not make sense. May be it is like disease of old Hollywood star who still kept stealing candies from stores despite earning in millions. Or more worrisome, is it a national or social habit of “sab chalta Hai”
Incidentally, California has a law called “THREE STRIKES AND OUT”. If a person is caught for three times in a life time, after third theft, THAT PERSON IS PUT IN JAIL FOR LIFE. Now people think twice in California before stealing a candy. Lots of people will oppose such law in India. But I call our Prime Minister Modi ji as a sanyasi, who can do the unthinkable for Mother India.
Would he risk his place in history by tinkering with a law like ““THREE STRIKES AND OUT”? A Sanyasi has nothing to lose and do his Karma alone, and his detractors call him a dictator any way. Think of India of the Guptas when India was a golden bird, birth place of the Veda. And how desperate thughs and thieves Colonials had made us?
When will we get over our dark past?
