Kashmir related Indian constitution Article 370 was a disgrace created by politically ambitious and fashionable charming first Prime minister of India JL Nehru in 1953. India had kept that alive for almost 70 disgraceful years. Disgraceful because the Article divided rest of India from Kashmir for some political reasons that only future history can tell.
Amit Shah was appointed home minister only two months ago by new Indian Government in May 2019.
He worked meticulously with opposition to kill Article 370 in Indian parliament, specially Upper House, Rajya Sabha where his government does not have a majority. Few people could imagine, even government senior ministers, that this fantastic plan was brewing in his mind in total secret till Monday morning on August 5 2019. Abolition of 370 was heard as a proposal by him with approval of parliament and signed by president to become an immediate law.
Article 370 is a law made to appease Sheikh Abdulla, the charming Kashmir leader in deep friendship with PM Nehru, after British let India . It gave Kashmir citizens and legislative body special privileges and monopoly on land acquisition, government jobs, ownership of businesses etc. Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, a one time cabinet member of Nehru, opposed this, forming a separate party-Jansangh-in 1951, and marched against this Article in 1953 in Srinagar. He was immediately arrested in May 1953 and died a mysterious death in two months in the jail there. Nehru and Abdullah both are accounted for his death.
BJP the ruling party won last elections due to its election manifesto of 2019 declaring that they will get rid of Article 370, and they have done a good job of keeping that promise. But most astonishing is the mind set of Indian electorates.
Why and how did Indian voter tolerate this insult for 70 years? Nehru ruled India for sixteen long years single evenhandedly. His daughter Indira Gandhi ruled India for seventeen years. Man Mohan Singh under Sonia Gandhi ruled India for ten years. Nar Simha Rao ten years can also not be forgiven for this overlook. He was a hand pick of Sonia Gandhi.
Why have Indian electorate not demanded abolition of disgraced article 370 and kept electing this same family among over a billion people of India?
History is a witness that Germans were blinded in mass to follow Hitler into second world war, and they realized their error after the war destruction, but seven decades of this national humiliation of Article 370 makes the world scratch its head to what had happened to the people of India and their pride !
