Apex Consumer Court Chief is Disheartened by slow case movement

New Delhi ,  National Consumer Disputes Redressal Committee (NCDRC) President is disheartened by very slow and agonizing speed of disposing of the cases as an all-time high.  NCDRC disposed of 5812 cases against 10678 cases filed at this Apex consumer Court.

The president said that people are pained and are not getting relief when they come to the court for Justice.

Bejon Mishra, a prominent consumer rights activist has famously said that years of waiting is a torture consumers get, we are destroying the original concept of justice in Consumer Courts. These courts have become normal courts. Clever adjournments and judicial hackings are widely inflicting consumer courts.

On top of all other problems, the current vacancies are a challenge for the government to fill. Consumer Affairs Ministry and central government has not yet acted very strongly to protect consumers. This court is made to facilitate suffering consumer for fast relief. It’s a shame that cases have taken as much as 15 long years and still see no resolution.

The biggest impact of low disposal has been on insurance claims after flat buyers. Flat buyers give their life savings anyway to builders who siphon money away. But insurance companies issues are more sophisticated with armies of lawyers involved. Administrative inefficiencies at NCDRC further tortures the consumer more, defeating the very cause of its existence – uplifting of the consumer interest, justice and wellbeing.
