Chappaquiddick is a movie on adultery and death in America’s most famous Kennedy family. The film is about a July 1969 accident in which Senator Kennedy broke a bridge barrier while driving drunk and his female passenger diet. She was an election worker.
Kennedy himself died of cancer nine years ago. The film’s ad campaign promises to tell things that were not told or known before.
Movie maker is not expected to be a biographer or a historian.
But the movie concentrates on gossip and scandals of Ted Kennedy overlooking the great laws that he helped create like US Disability Act transforming lives of handicaps globally. Physically handicapped derogatory name calling was common in India until few years ago. Call him those names today and if picked up in right place, a person goes to jail for doing so.
Sometimes fake history is worse than fake news. Dead men do not wake up to correct fake history. This is a film for scoring political points. It is not about art or history.
