Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) and Ibuprofen are two big chemicals. They are great if used wisely in pain management.
US National Ambulatory Medical Survey reports came out recently. It says 95% of people in the survey said that they took at least one of the two pain management medicines.
The survey indicates that acute pain problems management is okay with these powerful medicines for a few days. But continuous intake of these chemicals, can bring us habit formation when we cannot quit taking medicines. Kidney damage from heavy dosage of paracetamol and similarly ibuprofen can create serious problems for intestines, liver and stomach.
Localized pain should not be treated with pills. Instead, ibuprofen or Asian tiger balm can help pain management. But avoid paracetamol and ibuprofen as much as you can. A doctor advised me recently, “even if you cannot quit like you cannot quit opiates, at least cut dosages to a minimum. And let your doctor alone decide what is your minimum.
