journalism is under pressure globally. Internet has made media come under tremendous pressure to get maximum eye balls. Story has to be explosive seven days and 24 hours a day to stay alive. New York Magazine’s off spring The Cut is a respectable and honorable magazine of innovation and new ideas
But it made a blunder of publishing wedding of Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra at Jodhpur Umaid Palace Hotel with a ten-year younger Hollywood singer who is white by race. The story accuses Chopra of using the younger white man as a public relations stunt. The magazine essay called it “fake marriage” Some people called it cougar love. Chopra is a well-established actress and recently got lead role in a Hollywood production. The article was an unforgivable racist nonsense. What were the editors of the Cut thinking when they gave story a green signal?
Would this ever have been a sensational story if it was a brown man and white woman? The answer would be “perhaps not”.
It was not only racist but also sexist repression of female gender.
Rattled by internet fury against the article, The Cut removed the story with clear apology:
Last night, the Cut published a post about Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s relationship that shouldn’t have gone up. We’ve received dozens of messages from readers expressing their anger. We want you to know that we hear you and we’re sorry. The whole piece missed the mark. There is no good explanation for this other than human error and poor judgment. This was a mistake, and we apologize to our readers and to Priyanka and Nick.
But this is another wakeup call for media globally, to not sacrifice boundaries of decency for the sake of click baits. No law can control media in this world but viewer alone can signal to media that truth and decency must not become the price for higher click baits.
Stormy Daniels was a short sensation to tarnish image of Donald Trump, truth or not, that is not important, but it faded away fast. Trump still holds majority in US Senate
How does an artist, an actress become ““global scam artist,” simply because she marries a man of different race and who happened to be ten years her junior. It is their love and their choice, who am I to comment and moralize a very base human instinct?
