Veganism was unheard of remote, strange word until not long ago, anywhere in the world. In year 2015 America had only 3.5 percent population declaring itself s vegan. But 2019 sees a sea change in consumers who call themselves as vegan. The famous magazine, economist from UK declares 2019 as the year of vegan that will bring huge economic waves globally and no one can claim to be untouched from it.
What and who is vegan?
Vegans are a tougher and more disciplined form of vegetarians. A vegan will not touch milk, curd, ghee, paneer, cream, egg, fish, meat or chicken or honey. They will not wear silk or wool to save cruelty to animals. To a vegan, drinking milk is compared to drinking blood of cow. To a vegan, cow milk was made for growing years of a calf, not for humans. Drinking milk is depriving calf of its mother’s milk. We also know that dairy industry growth harmons involved in injections and cow feeds to produce more milk causes many diseases including cancer.
Veganism calls for only plant based food and diet that is sustainable for the planet and with least amount of carbon foot print that humans have created for themselves. Fish, meat, poultry or egg also go against carbon footprint and human impact on the earth. Climate change is one huge evidence of how human carbon foot print is destroying our environment.
People dying of floods and rains in Thar Maru Bhumi(desert state of Rajasthan) or killer floods of Kerala or Miami coast or snow storms of Oregon were unthinkable only a decade ago. Veganism draws our attention to basic moral and ethics to keep earth livable. American millennials, from age 23 to 35 are the leaders of vegan trends accounting for 25 % of vegan consumers.
Economic future

Above all it will provide cheaper food for masses in poor countries if food that is plant based is promoted. India will be perhaps biggest beneficiary of veganism. Indian government and bureaucrats must think if there is an opportunity for serving the motherland in the name of Veganism
