Dr. Lawrence Nasser of USA gymnastic Olympics team was recently sent to jail for sexual abuse of his young patients, hundreds of patients. Sending him to jail did not make sense, except that massage should be given by a female assistant than himself doing it.
Doctors also wear gloves instead of using bare hands and fingers to strengthen pelvic floor, but he did not. Women also develop pelvic problems after childbirth. Physical therapy of that area helps them. Gymnasts land hard and hit on floor repeatedly. They also require therapy.
Dr. Nasser may have been a monster, as told by over a hundred young athletes. But the practice itself is very old and proven therapy.
Esther Fairfax had written a book, “My Improper Mother and Me”, in 2010.
She describes importance of lower belly and pelvic floor to strengthen vagina and anus, important for great dance performers. May be Nasser;s methods were classic but he carried them out wrongly. These were simple errors like a female aide should have been there, gloves should have been put.
But does he deserve multiple life jail sentence and his institutions fined with multi million dollar damages?
